Analysing magazine front covers

Analysing magazine front covers

VOGUE
The main image on this photo is of a mid shot of a women and the colours used are mainly black, white and gold however there is a bright red contrasting colour throughout the cover. The colour red draws in the attention of the audience straight away, this represents the fashion or danger in the fashion industry and also this colour is associated with love showing some women's passion for clothes and the fashion industry.

As the masthead is so well known that the 'G' in VOGUE has been covered by the models head showing that the customers who buy the magazine are likely to buy it on a regular basis. The title in in a bold professional text as the audience of this magazine is women in there late twenties to thirties who work in fashion who are desirable fashion enthusiasts. This magazine is £4.10 a month so therefore the women who generally buy this magazine are of an upper class and therefore need to have a well paid job to afford this.

The cover lines of this magazine show of a brand name 'Coco Chanel' which women of this target audience may buy into, the average price of perfume for this brand is £60-£70 pound at its cheapest and therefore they must have this kind of money. Also the colours are again red and white suggesting that the brand is for women in power as this is a statement colour and is in fashion rather than the traditional pink in which is related to women and girls.

Red has a dominance in paris as well as the cover is from paris so therefore this may be why the colour was used for this cover. The text is very simplistic and there is not much of it as it looks more professional and leaves more to the reader to find out within the magazine as the buyers will usually already know what is it about.
